Pacific Gas & Electric Awards Premier Power $1.9M To Increase San Francisco Solar Power Premier Power Contacts Rob Hichborn Premier Power Renewable Energy, Inc. rhichborn@premierpower.com Toll Free: 877.939.0400 San Francisco, Calif. - November 14, 2006 - PG&E has awarded a $1.9 million contract to Premier Power Renewable Energy, Inc. to install solar systems on PG&E facilities in San Francisco.
The solar installations will showcase two different approaches that are available to property owners interested in integrating solar systems on their buildings.
Coming on the eve of the commencement of the California Solar Initiative, PG&E hopes that these projects will stimulate interest and confidence in the use of solar photovoltaics for a wide variety of applications. This most recent project is also another step PG&E is taking to help San Francisco become the cleanest and greenest city in the nation.
"PG&E is keeping our commitment to bring solar power to San Francisco by setting an example through the installations on our own service center," said Tom King, CEO of Pacific Gas and Electric Company, "We hope these actions will complement the City’s efforts to take advantage of the $100 million solar bond passed by the voters in 2001."
The San Francisco Service Center projects will consist of static photovoltaic systems mounted on the roof and building façade, as well as an innovative "Parque del Sol" carport structure that will track the sun throughout the day to produce renewable power while providing shade for the parking lot.
These systems, consisting in total of 1236 panels, will produce an estimated total of 420,100 kW hours of renewable, "green" power that will have zero greenhouse gas emissions. The solar panel installation projects will begin this month, and are targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2007.
"Premier Power Renewable Energy is very excited to be a part of this state-of-the-art solar project. PG&E has taken the lead in solar application and innovation in San Francisco," says Dean Marks, President of Premier Power. "With these innovative solar projects and its renewable energy leadership, PG&E is showing corporate America that being green is not only good for the environment, but also it makes good business sense," Marks concluded.
