A solar company is more than a sleek webpage. Here are some important questions you need to ask a solar consultant before you buy:

• Does the solar installer hold a valid contractor’s license? In compliance with federal law, your solar installer must hold a valid state contractor's license. To install solar power in California, your contractor needs both a C46 and a C10 license. Installers with only a B license cannot interconnect you with the grid and will need to sub-contract out the job. Check out their license number on your local state site. In addition, your solar power company should be certified by NABCEP (the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners), the highest solar certification.
